What Do Two-Stage and Three-Stage Desk Legs Mean?
A two-stage lifting column has two telescoping sections; a three-stage column has three. Both types are available with dual motors; the number of leg sections is a separate choice.

500 mm vs 650 mm: What Does the Extra Stroke Change?
Stroke is the distance the desk moves between its lowest and highest positions. Our three-stage legs provide 150 mm more stroke than our two-stage legs.

Check the quoted minimum and maximum heights and whether they include the desktop. The extra 150 mm can extend the range downward, upward or in both directions, depending on the design.
Can 500 mm of Stroke Cover Your Required Settings?
Subtract your lowest required desktop setting from your highest required setting. For a shared workstation, use the extremes required by the people assigned to it.
Required adjustment span = highest required setting − lowest required setting.
Compare that span with the available stroke first:

Enough stroke is the first requirement. The desk must also start low enough and extend high enough for your settings.
Example: When the Extra 150 mm Is Necessary
As a calculation example, suppose you need the desktop at 650 mm when seated and 1200 mm when standing.
The required span is 1200 − 650 = 550 mm. A desk with a 500 mm stroke cannot reach both settings, regardless of where its range starts. A desk with a 650 mm stroke has sufficient stroke, but its finished minimum must also be at or below 650 mm and its maximum at or above 1200 mm.
Example: When Two-Stage Remains an Option
In a second calculation example, settings of 720 mm and 1150 mm require 430 mm of stroke length. Both options have enough stroke. Two-stage remains suitable if the assembled desk reaches both heights and meets your other requirements.
Can a Customized Height Range Solve the Mismatch?
If the desk moves far enough but starts too high or too low, ask about a different height range. We can customize our three-stage 600–1250 mm frame range to 575–1225 mm or 625–1275 mm. These frame heights exclude the desktop, and all three options retain a 650 mm stroke.
The lower version moves both endpoints down by 25 mm; the higher version moves both up by 25 mm. Choose the lower version only if its reduced maximum still covers the standing requirement. Choose the higher version only if its raised minimum still covers the seated requirement. Account for the intended desktop thickness when checking those working positions.
Shifting a range can correct where the stroke starts and ends; it cannot cover a required span longer than the available stroke.

Why Does a Two-Stage Dual-Motor Desk Cost Less?
Our two-stage legs cost less to make because each leg has one fewer section. If their range suits your setup, they let you keep dual motors at a lower price.
