How much weight can a standing desk hold? The answer depends on its rated lifting capacity. These are dynamic lifting capacities that include the desktop’s weight. Add the desktop and everything carried with it during height adjustment, then choose a configuration rated for that total.

Standing Desk Weight Capacity: 80, 100 or 130 kg?
Our three configurations give buyers different load options:

The 100 kg option requires a strengthened configuration; it is a separate specification from our standard 80 kg single-motor frame. Match the quoted capacity to the version you order.
When comparing another desk, check its own specification and whether the desktop is included in the stated limit. Motor count alone does not establish a desk’s lifting capacity.
Dynamic vs Static Load Capacity
Dynamic load capacity is the weight a desk is rated to carry while raising and lowering. This is the figure to use when selecting an electric standing desk for everyday height adjustment.
Static capacity describes what the desk can support while stationary. Our frames can support more weight at rest than their rated lifting load, but the lifting rating remains the working limit for a setup that will move. A higher static figure does not increase the weight you can raise and lower.
Check which figure appears on a quotation before comparing two desks. An 80 kg dynamic rating and a larger static rating describe different operating conditions.
Add the Desktop and Everything That Moves with It
Calculate the complete load carried by the lifting frame:
Desktop weight + equipment and attached accessories = total lifting load.
Count monitors, arms, computers and accessories supported by the moving assembly, including anything mounted underneath. A floor-standing computer adds no lifting load; a computer in an under-desk holder adds both its own weight and the holder’s.
For an illustrative setup, a 25 kg desktop plus 15 kg of equipment totals 40 kg. Use your actual weights in this calculation. With an 80 kg configuration, that example leaves 40 kg of capacity before reaching the rated limit.
When the rating includes the top, you can also work backwards:
Rated lifting capacity − desktop weight = capacity available for equipment.
For example, an 80 kg frame carrying a 25 kg top has 55 kg available for equipment. This arithmetic helps you compare configurations without confusing the frame’s total rating with a separate allowance for desktop contents.
Is an 80 kg Standing Desk Enough?
In our work with customers, an 80 kg lifting capacity already exceeds the combined weight of many conventional desktops and everyday office items by a considerable amount. Some buyers ask for the highest capacity before adding up what they will put on the desk.
Start with that total. If your complete setup weighs 40 kg, an 80 kg frame meets its load requirement. Moving to a 130 kg configuration solely for more capacity does not solve an existing weight problem in that setup.
A heavier top, several substantial monitor arms, or a computer mounted beneath the desk can change the calculation. Weigh those items rather than estimating from the number of screens. Include equipment you already plan to add.
Capacity is one part of frame selection. The desk also needs to reach your working heights and suit the desktop’s dimensions. Check stability at your intended standing height with the equipment in its normal position; the load rating alone does not answer that question.
Can You Use a Desk Close to Its Rated Capacity?
Yes. Our B&H configurations can operate within their stated dynamic lifting capacity, including loads close to the rating. We use conservative rated figures, so we do not ask customers to apply an additional fixed 20% or 30% reduction to those figures.
For example, a measured 78 kg total falls within an 80 kg configuration’s rating. If you then add a 5 kg accessory, the total becomes 83 kg and exceeds that rating. Reduce the load or select a configuration that accommodates the revised total.
Use the published rating as the selection limit: a 130 kg configuration is selected for a total lifting load up to 130 kg. Allow for any known future additions when choosing the configuration, rather than treating internal test margin as extra usable capacity.
Choose Capacity for Your Actual Setup
Before ordering, complete these checks:
- Confirm the rating: use dynamic lifting capacity and establish whether it includes the desktop.
- Total the load: count the board, equipment and accessories carried by the moving assembly.
- Identify the configuration: distinguish a standard frame from a reinforced custom version.
- Account for planned changes: add the weight of equipment you expect to install.
- Check the fit: review desktop dimensions, required working heights and the equipment layout alongside capacity.
